The Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila was again put in the limelight last March 4, 2015 during the World Hospital Organization (WHO) hospital tour for the launching of the "UNANG YAKAP" (First Embrace) campaign in the Western Pacific.  The "First Embrace" initiative was effectively pioneered by the Fabella Memorial Hospital starting in 2008. Fabella Director Dr. Ruben Flores is very proud of the accomplishment of the Fabella Memorial Hospital and cited that the program which they termed the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) system, which basically involves the mother wrapping the preterm baby embrace for warmth and breastfeeding, it is an effective protection against infection and as WHO noted, may have a direct impact on the reduction by half of the number of newborns requiring admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) over the past years.

The photo above (with Hospital Director Dr. Ruben C. Flores and Mr. Celemente Sentino, Jr and Mrs. Dailin Cabigayan and Baby Chonalyn Sentino) also serves as a reminder that Fabella Memorial Hospital also was chosen in July 27, 2014 last year by the Philippine government as the site where the 100 millionth Filipino baby was recognized.

It will be recalled as shown in the photo below that Fabella Memorial Hospital also holds the distinction and recognition of bringing forth to the world the 7th Billion baby of the World.

Weighing 5lbs 5oz, Danica May Camacho was delivered amid an explosion of media flash bulbs in the delivery room at Manila's Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital. Mother Camille Dalura said: 'She looks so lovely. I can't believe she is the world's seventh billion.' - October 31, 2011.

Dr. Ruben C. Flores, Medical Center Chief II, is the epitome of a model and dedicated public servant. He has been a hospital operator for the last 31 years and has been cited by no less than President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino in his State of the Nation address in his 1st 100 days as one of the outstanding public servants.  He is currently the President (2014 and 2015) of the Philippine Hospital Association and holds the distinction of being the 2nd Filipino President (2014 and 2015) of the prestigious International Organization, the Asian Hospital Federation.
